Visit Normandy in four days – Day 3

This proposed course has been established by the D-Day Overlord website to allow you to visit the historical area of the Battle of Normandy, according to your possibilities. On this page, discover the idea of a “long stay” route to be carried out in four days).

Day 3 – Morning

Location: Bayeux (14)
Direction: Port-en-Bessin (14) – Museum of the Wrecks of D-Day
Itinerary (driving time: 25 minutes): exit Bayeux, take the motorway N 13 / E 46 direction Cherbourg, then exit right towards Port-en-Bessin. Follow the signs that indicate the Museum of Wrecks of the Landing.

Departure: Port-en-Bessin (14) – Museum of Wrecks of D-Day
Direction: Colleville-sur-Mer (14) – Omaha Beach – American military cemetery
Itinerary (travel time by car: 25 minutes): exit Port-en-Bessin. Join the coastal road (D 514). Follow the signs to the US Military Cemetery.

Departure: Colleville-sur-Mer (14) – Omaha Beach – US military cemetery
Direction: Colleville-sur-Mer (14) – Omaha Beach – Remains of the Wn 62 strongpoint
Itinerary (2 minutes): exit the American military cemetery and take the first left (follow the signs), the parking lot of the Wn 62 strongpoint is located about a hundred meters from the cemetery.

Departure: Colleville-sur-Mer (14) – Omaha Beach – Remains of the Wn 62 strongpoint
Directions: Saint-Laurent-sur-Mer (14) – Omaha Beach
Itinerary (travel time by car: 5 minutes): leave Colleville-sur-Mer direction Le Bray and Saint-Laurent-sur-Mer on the D 514. At the crossroads of Saint-Laurent-sur-Mer, Right direction the beach and the Omaha Beach Museum. Stop at the Omaha Beach Museum.

Departure: Saint-Laurent-sur-Mer (14) – Omaha Beach – Omaha Beach Museum
Direction: Saint-Laurent-sur-Mer (14) – Omaha Beach – Beach
Itinerary (driving time: 2 minutes): exit the Omaha Beach Museum car park and turn left towards the beach. Stop in front of the Landing Committee Monument. Turn right on the road parallel to the beach towards Ruquet. Observe the point of view of the bunker of the Ruquet.
Parking: many places in front of the Signal Monument (1st Infantry Division)

– Walking tour of the historic site: the viewpoint of the Ruquet bunker

Day 3 – Afternoon

Location: Saint-Laurent-sur-Mer (14) – Omaha Beach – Beach
Direction: Vierville-sur-Mer (14) – Omaha Beach – Beach
Itinerary (time by car: 3 minutes): on the road parallel to the beach, head west towards Vierville-sur-Mer. Stop after the National Guard bunker.
Parking: places near the National Guard bunker
Visit:
– Walking tour of the historic site: National Guard bunker and commemorative plaques

Departure: Vierville-sur-Mer (14) – Omaha Beach – Beach
Directions: Vierville-sur-Mer (14) – Omaha Beach – Museum
Itinerary (time by car: 2 minutes): leave the beach in the direction of the center of Vierville-sur-Mer. At the crossroads, turn right towards Grandcamp-Maisy, then turn immediately after the first right, and park at the museum’s car park.

Departure: Vierville-sur-Mer (14) – Omaha Beach – Beach
Direction: Pointe du Hoc – German coastal battery
Itinerary (time of the journey: 8 minutes): leave Vierville-sur-Mer and take the D 514 towards the west in the direction of Grandcamp-Maisy. Follow signs to turn right towards Pointe du Hoc.
Parking: on-site parking of the German coastal battery of Pointe du Hoc

Departure: Pointe du Hoc – German coastal battery
Direction: Grandcamp-Maisy (14) – Museum of the battery of Maisy
Itinerary (travel time: 3 minutes): take the direction of Grandcamp-Maisy then Isigny-sur-Mer. At the exit of Grandcamp-Maisy, turn right following the signs, before the car garage.
Parking: Parking Maisy battery museum

– Maisy’s battery

Departure: Grandcamp-Maisy (14) – Museum of Maisy’s battery
Direction: La Cambe (14) – German military cemetery
Itinerary (driving time: 8 minutes): return to Grandcamp-Maisy and turn right at the Church to take the Route de la Cambe (D 199). At the crossroads, turn left (Route de Grandcamp to La Cambe – D 113), then turn left again (D 613). You then enter La Cambe, turn right (D 113) which leads to a roundabout: follow the signs that indicate the German military cemetery.
