History of the Mark
II 25 pounds gun
The
gun QF 25 Pounder (87.5 mm) was developed in the period between
the two world wars by the British engineers to replace the aging
QF 18 Pounder (84 mm) gun and the 4.5 inch (114 mm) gun dating
from the Great War.
Mounted on a circular steel structure, allowing the gun to rotate
rapidly in all directions, this canon appeared rapidly as one
of the best field artillery guns of the war.
Its main strengths are its fire power and its high mobility. Widely
used during the Battle of Normandy, the Mk II 25 pounder gun offered
significant support to Allied troops.
This gun has been used in the British artillery until the 1950s
and was used until 1967 for training in the British army.
