D-Day 65th anniversary

Pictures of the Free French commando ceremonies

On June 5 and June 6, 2009, British commandos veterans (including the veterans of the Free France commando) met on the beach where they had landed 65 years earlier, but also at the famous Pegasus Bridge and at the village of Ranville. They retraced the path they have taken on June 6, 1944.

On friday June 5, 2009, a walk in the footsteps of the Free France Commando (Kieffer Commando) was organized and led by local children who were accompanied by the French navy military commandos from Lorient. Ceremonies were held in the villages crossed, especially at the military cemetery of Ranville, in the presence of a few veterans of the Kieffer commando, whose president was until then Léon Gautier.
