Focke Wulf
Fw-190 history
Before
Germany launched its first military offensive of the Second World
War in Western Europe, its engineers tried to develop an aircraft
with equal or superior characteristics to the Messerschmitt
Bf 109. Thus in spring 1938, the study of a new hunter began.
A
year later, in spring 1939, the fourth and final prototype was
manufactured. It was very successful among the German military
experts, who decided to start the production of this aircraft,
called Focke Wulf Fw 190. A serious problem of too high
temperature in the cockpit was resolved quickly. But the Fw 190
was presented as one of the best fighters of the Second World
War.
The
Focke Wulf Fw 190 was also used as fighter-bomber, a role in which
it excelled. Used initially on the eastern front against the Russian
forces, the Fw 190 was also sent to Europe in 1943, and hundreds
of aircraft based in the west have been sent against the allied
squadrons during the Battle of Normandy. But the fight was very
uneven because of the very numerous British and American aircrafts.
