Halifax Mk
III bomber history
Entered
in active service at the beginning of the Second World War in
Europe, the British Halifax was a powerful four-engine bomber
with an action range of over 2,000 km.
In 1940 the first Halifax bombers took off and a year later, on
the night of March 11 to 12, 1941, it participated in its first
tactic raid on the town of Le Havre, France.
Different versions of the Handley Page Halifax bomber were built,
including meteorology information, anti-submarine, and parachutists
carrier models. Improvements have been made to the Halifax and
it was in February 1944 that the production of the Mk III model
began. It was stopped at the end of the Second World War.
A total of 75,532 missions (most of them during nights) were made
by this heavy bombers and nearly 227,000 tons of bombs were dropped.
