Hawker Hurricane history

In 1934, British military engineers started working on a new aircraft known as "Furry". This new fighter appeared to be an effective one and wa supported by the English Department of the Air Force.

In 1935, the first prototype was made and the production began immediately after the testing. In 1940, the Battle of Britain began and the now nicknamed "Hurricane" fighter was an excellent hunter. Many German bombers were shot down by this aircraft, which was also highly resistant to impacts caused during the fights.

In 1942, the engineers decided to develop other versions of the Hurricane, for example the Hurricane Mk IV model, because the performance of the original one were gradually overtaken by new fighters such as the Spitifire.

14,533 Hawker Hurricane fighters were produced throughout the Second World War and many have participated in air operations during the Battle of Normandy from June 5 to August 29, 1944.
