Born in Los Angeles, "Buck" Compton plays the baseball and American football at ULCA before joining a school officer of the U.S. military.

He makes his training at Camp Toccoa in 1943 and joins the Easy Company as a 2nd Lieutenant in Aldbourne, England, where Easy makes its final training before operation Overlord.

Compton wrote his war memoirs : Call of Duty, my life before, during and after the band of brothers.
