Springfield
M1903A3-A4 rifle history
The
first prototype of the M1903A1 Springfield was founded in 1900
and 80 000 units were produced in 1903. Widely used during World
War I, the rifle is once again studied by the American engineers
who produce a new model, the M193A3, benefiting from learned lessons
from the first World War.
It is only in the early years of World War II that the soldiers
of the U.S. armed forces used the Springfield, which is then gradually
put aside in favor of the M1 Garand. But a new Springfield model
(the M1903A4) with a precision scope, remained used by U.S. snipers
who appreciate its high accuracy.
A grenade launcher version was also used between 1941 and 1945,
with a grenade launcher designed initially for the M1
Garand rifle.
