MP 44 assault rifle
history
The
MP 44 or Stg 44 Sturmgewehr was the first assault rifle in the
world. Development studies began in 1942 and continued until 1944.
Several models were produced at different times, and the MP 43,
the culmination of the initial work of this rifle was used on
the Western front and in particular during the Battle of Normandy.
Reports of effectiveness of the weapon are very encouraging for
the Germans who decide to improve their weapon.
The Stg 44 would gradually replaced the range of MP-40
guns type, and has selectable fire modes: semi-automatic and automatic.
Despite its very weigt (5.22 kg), its somewhat bulky design and
its low impact resistance, the Sturmgewehr allowed the German
infantry to increase its fire power at the end of the Second World
War.
