This page presents the calendar of the various military camp re-enactments in 2017 to mark the 73rd anniversary of D-Day and the Battle of Normandy.
- Wednesday 31 May to Thursday 8 June 2017
Camp Bloody Gulch – Méautis (50)
– Opening to the public from 9.30am. Re-enactment camp at the Manoir de Donville with American, German and civilian military vehicles. Refreshments in a 1940s grocery shop, baptisms in an American tank (Charly tank) and demonstration of combat techniques. Guided tours. Camp Arizona – Carentan (50)
– Opening from 9am. Camp life, exhibition and vehicle parade. Friday 2 June at 9pm: 1940s ball with ‘Stage Door Canteen’. An authentic recreation of a wartime entertainment venue with the best music of the 1940s.
Military camp – Sainte-Marie-du-Mont (50)
-2pm to 6pm: with dioramas and educational workshops, Place de l’Eglise. Organised by: Club du Souvenir Militaire – 02 33 71 56 54.
Camp Geronimo – Sainte-Mère-Eglise (50)
– 09:00 – 19:00: Continuous, every day on the camp:
demonstration of ‘the American paratrooper’: equipment and weapons; explanations of command tactics: study of the drop zone on a 3D model, the sand table; first aid post in the combat zone with medical evacuation (ambulances); reconstruction of the ‘soldier’s home’: military shop to improve soldiers’ daily lives; role-playing of an armoured reconnaissance unit in the field (tanks, self-propelled guns, light vehicles, weapons); re-enactment and demonstration of military cooking; explanations of the different types of rations; exhibition of equipment and vehicles.
Saturday 3 June, 11pm and 11.30pm: events focusing on the role of the scouts, night-time demonstration with equipment and weapons.
