Colleville-Montgomery 2009
Commemorations of the 65th anniversary of the Normandy landings
Location: Colleville-Montgomery
Date: 4 June 2009
Ceremony: Bill Millin, the famous bagpiper who landed on Sword Beach on 6 June 1944, was present during these days of commemoration in Normandy. Immortalised in the film The Longest Day, Bill attended a bagpipe concert on 4 June 2009 in Colleville-Montgomery (in the presence of veterans and Robert Watt, world bagpipe champion) and other ceremonies until 6 June. Unfortunately, he did not ‘play’ during the concert, but he said he was delighted to see that the next generation was taking over!
