German strongpoints in Normandy: Wn 81

The Wn 81, located one kilometer west of Grandcamp, is on the site of a 17th century Vauban fort, Fort Samson, destroyed by the German occupation at the beginning of the Second World War. It serves as a front observation and defense station for Maisy’s battery, a few kilometers to the south. It includes several shelters, tobruk, ammunition bunkers and a casemate type H667.

Composition of the Wn 81 strongpoint:

  • 2x 5 cm KWK L/32 gun
  • Several machine guns
  • Several mortars
