Commemorations of the 65th anniversary of the Normandy landings
Location: Gourbesville
Date: 6 June 2009
Ceremonies: several tributes were held in Gourbesville to commemorate the fighting around the village that took place on the night of 5 to 6 June 1944. The paratroopers of the 101st (US) Airborne Division were honoured: an information panel recounting the events of June 1944 was unveiled, along with a monument representing an American paratrooper. The veterans were warmly welcomed and honoured during these commemorations, attended by American officials, notably General Miller.
