bonjour je recherche une unite ou division canadienne qui occupait loppem(bruges) car mon arrieres grand pere c'est engage chez eux mais il est mort est donc je ne sais pas le savoir dans quoi il etait je sais que c'est pas facile mais bon deja recherche mais pas trouve si vous avez un site ou autres

Hello Ardennes,

The Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders of Canada were very close to Loppem, at Moerbrugge. The South Alberta Regiment and the Lincoln & Welland Regiment were also at Moerbrugge. My father was in the Argylls. Here is a link to an article he wrote about the battle.

There is also a good book by Dr. Carlos Vlaemynck called "De Slag om Moerbrugge." It has lots of photos and discusses the Canadians' approach to the area through Oostcamp. I got a copy from a book vendor in Bruges named Willy Degelder. Let me know if you would like to have his contact information.

In 1980, I took the train from Brussels to Bruges and walked to Moerbrugge to take photos to show my father. That inspired him and my mother to visit Moerbrugge later that year, which was my father's first return to the continent of Europe since 1946. He still has friends in Moerbrugge and has been back at least twice, including to be present at the unveiling of the memorial made out of a crushed tank.
