RIP Allen Huddleston | 1919-2016
K Co – 116th Infantry Regiment
29th Infantry Division
Allen Huddleston participated in the liberation of France, enlisting on August 28, 1944, with the 29th Infantry Division in the Brest region of Brittany. His company participated in the Normandy landings at Omaha Beach, suffering nearly 90% casualties.
Having broken his ankle two weeks before D-Day, he was unable to participate in the launch of Operation Overlord. In his company of the 116th Infantry Regiment, 19 young men were like him from Bedford, Virginia: 16 were killed in Normandy.
Allen was the last surviving veteran of the “Bedford Boys” of World War II. We will not forget him.
