Merville Battery 2009 – D-Day 65th anniversary

Ceremonies: at the Merville battery, British veterans who served under Lieutenant-Colonel Otway in 1944 gathered for two days to commemorate their actions 65 years earlier. Of note was the presence, on 5 June 2009, of a German military delegation represented by Colonel Dühr, military attaché at the German Embassy in France, as well as the military band from the German region of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The veterans marched to the tune of Wagner’s ‘Walkyries’, which was their battalion’s music.
