The days that marked the Battle of Normandy

On August 27, the Germans continued to cross the Seine river on floating bridges, north and south of Paris. They are followed directly by US and Commonwealth troops, who chase the defeated soldiers so they do not have time to regroup and counterattack. However, the German rear guards prevented the Allies from progressing rapidly and favored the withdrawal of the Wehrmacht and the Panzer armies.

North-east of Caen, the soldiers belonging to Colonel Piron’s Belgian brigade liberated the last villages still in the hands of the German forces in the Calvados area. On 28 August, the Piron brigade was advancing in the region of Couverville-en-Roumois.
