German strongpoints in Normandy: Wn 31

Atlantic wall

The Wn 31 strongpoint, located in Graye-sur-Mer, west of Courseulles (Juno Beach), was used as the command post of the 7th Company of the 736th Infantry Regiment (716 Infantry Division). It includes an observation station type H666 under bell located at the top of the dune, a shelter for command post, a casemate of flanking H612 for an artillery gun (here a 75 mm gun). Several other shelters and casemates complete the defensive device, in particular the positions for machine guns (type Vf 58c) and mortars (type Vf 69).

  • 2x 5 cm KWK guns
  • Several 8,1 cm Gr. W34 mortars
  • Several machine guns
