German strongpoints in Normandy: Wn 38

Atlantic wall

The Wn 38 strongpoint is located north-west of Asnelles, in Saint-Côme-de-Fresné. This support point consists of an anti-tank wall located directly on the beach, two casemates for anti-tank guns and a shelter for the personnel.

The Wn 38 was taken by assault on June 6, 1944 by the 1st Battalion Hampshire Regiment belonging to the 231st Infantry Brigade, 50th Infantry Division.

Composition of the Wn 38 strongpoint:

  • 2x 5 cm KWK guns
  • 1x 5 cm Gr.W mortar
