Inauguration of the stele in memory of Major Tucker
Carentan

2017 D-Day Commemorations photos

Inaugurated on June 5, 2017 in Carentan, this stele commemorates the American sappers of the 300th Engineer Combat Battalion and in particular Major John E. Tucker who worked for the setting up of crossing points during the Battle of Normandy. He will sacrifice his life on June 27, 1944 in Carentan during an artillery fire. This monument is located near the remains of one of these bridges on the Taute River connecting Carentan to Saint-Hilaire-Petitville.

The financing of this stele was obtained from a collaborative funding initiated by Bertrand Froger to which the association D-Day Overlord contributed.
