Several British veterans gathered at the Merville Battery to commemorate the assault made shortly before the dawn of June 6, 1944 by the men led by Major Otway. These veterans were able to travel in Normandy thanks to the initiative of more than 100 London taxis whose owners have chosen to volunteer their trip. A wreath laying was carried out at the foot of the German battery casemates, followed by a minute of silence in the presence of veterans and local and military authorities.
On the site of the battery of Merville, French-speaking reconstituents had installed a military camp to discover the equipment and vehicles of the Second World War.
