2019 D-Day commemorations photos – 75th anniversary of the Normandy landings

On June 10, 2019 as part of the 75th anniversary of the Normandy landings, a tribute was paid to the Native American fighters who served in the ranks of the US Army during the Second World War. On D-Day, many of them were present during the assault on Utah Beach to code the messages of the Americans. One of the first radio communications issued by the assault troops was coded by the Amerindians in the area of Sainte-Marie-du-Mont on June 6, 1944.

This ceremony was organized by the descendants of the Native American soldiers, in particular in the presence of Charles Norman Shay, Indian veteran of the landing at Omaha Beach within the 1st (US) Infantry Division.
