June 8, 2018: Arromanches Remembers the Princess Irene Regiment

This Wednesday, June 6, 2018, as every year, Dutch soldiers from the 17th Infantry Regiment participated in a parade on June 6th Square.
“This is an opportunity to recall the strong ties that have been forged between our town and the Netherlands,” emphasized Patrick Jardin, the mayor of Arromanches. “This parade underscores the decisive role of the Netherlands in the liberation of France and Europe.”
This highly formal ceremony, orchestrated by members of the Princess Irene Regiment, is rooted in the military tradition of the Netherlands. “Especially since we are celebrating a double anniversary today,” emphasized Pieter de Gooijer, the Dutch ambassador to France, who was participating in the D-Day commemorations for the first time. It’s both the 74th anniversary of our troops landing on this beach and the 80th anniversary of the Princess Irene Regiment.”
