This Wednesday, June 6, 2018, as every year, Dutch soldiers from the 17th Infantry Regiment participated in a parade on June 6th Square.
« This is an opportunity to recall the strong ties that have been forged between our town and the Netherlands, » emphasized Patrick Jardin, the mayor of Arromanches. « This parade underscores the decisive role of the Netherlands in the liberation of France and Europe. »
This highly formal ceremony, orchestrated by members of the Princess Irene Regiment, is rooted in the military tradition of the Netherlands. « Especially since we are celebrating a double anniversary today, » emphasized Pieter de Gooijer, the Dutch ambassador to France, who was participating in the D-Day commemorations for the first time.
