Visit Normandy in four days – Day 1

This proposed course has been established by the D-Day Overlord website to allow you to visit the historical area of the Battle of Normandy, according to your possibilities. On this page, discover the idea of a “long stay” route to be carried out in four days).

Day 1 – Morning

Departure: Caen (14)
Direction: Caen (14) – Memorial
Itinerary (time of the journey by car: 15 minutes): take the ring road north of Caen, then the exit N ° 7 and follow the indications.

Day 1 – Afternoon

Departure: Caen (14)
Direction: Bénouville (14)
Itinerary (time of the journey by car: 15 minutes): leave Caen direction Hérouville-Saint-Clair, then take Avenue Georges Clemenceau (D 515) towards Ouistreham. Exit at Hérouville-Saint-Clair and continue on the D 515. Enter Bénouville, take the direction of Cabourg, cross the bridge Pegasus Bridge, park at the Pegasus Bridge museum (100 meters on the left after the bridge)

Location: Bénouville (14)
Direction: Merville-Franceville-Plage (14) – Battery of Merville
Itinerary (time of the journey by car: 15 minutes): leave Bénouville towards the east and take the direction of Merville-Franceville-Plage (D 514). Cross Sallenelles then turn right at the first crossroads into Merville-Franceville-Plage and follow the signs to the Merville Battery.

Departure: Merville-Franceville-Plage (14)
Direction: Ouistreham – Riva-Bella (14) – Museum of the Atlantic Wall
Itinerary (travel time: 25 minutes): Return to Bénouville (D 514) and exit Bénouville towards the west and take the direction of Ouistreham. In the city, take the D 84 for 1.3 km and turn right to reach the Avenue de la Plage which leads to the Avenue of 6 June. The Atlantic Wall Museum is on this avenue.

Departure: Ouistreham – Riva-Bella (14) – Museum of the Atlantic Wall
Direction: Ouistreham – Riva-Bella (14) – Museum N ° 4 Commando
Itinerary (travel time: 2 minutes): Take Avenue de la Plage towards the south, then turn right on Boulevard Boivin-Champeaux and then turn right on Rue Victor Hugo which leads you to Place Alfred Thomas where Is the Museum No. 4 Commando.

Departure: Ouistreham – Riva-Bella (14) – Museum No4 Commando
Direction: Ouistreham – Riva-Bella (14) – Sword Beach
Itinerary (travel time by car: 1 minute): take the Boulevard Maritime towards the casino, take Boulevard Aristide Briand on the right and park near the casino.

– Walking tour of the historic site: Sword Beach, monuments, beach defenses

Departure: Ouistreham – Riva-Bella (14) – Sword Beach
Directions: Dover-la-Délivrande (14)
Itinerary (time of the journey by car: 15 minutes): leave Ouistreham direction Colleville-Montgomery on D 35a (coastal road). Turn right onto Rue du Château d’eau (D 35a), which leads to the D 35. You arrive at Hermanville-sur-Mer and continue towards Douvres-la-Délivrande. Follow signs to the Radar Museum.

– Visit of the Radar Museum of Douvres-la-Délivrande

Departure: Dover-la-Délivrande (14)
Direction: Courseulles-sur-Mer (14) – Juno Beach
Itinerary (travel time: 35 minutes): exit Douvres-la-Délivrande by taking the D 35 direction Courseulles-sur-Mer, which leads to the D 79. In Courseulles-sur-Mer, follow the signs which indicate the Juno Beach Center
Parking: parking at the museum Juno Beach Center
Visit:
– Walking tour of the historic site: the beach, the Croix de Lorraine, the bunkers
– Visit of the Juno Beach Center Museum, in honor of the Canadian soldiers who landed in Normandy.
