Ceremony/Events: The traditional memorial ceremony took place in Colleville-Montgomery in the presence of two veterans of the Kieffer Commando, Léon Gautier and Jean Masson. The Association of Marine Fusiliers Commandos (AFMC) partnered with the D-Day Overlord Association to create a memorial commemorating the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings and the Battle of Normandy. After the gathering and laying of wreaths in front of the existing headstones, the laying of wreaths at sea in memory of the fallen and the open-air mass, the inauguration of the new headstone took place in the presence of several hundred people, civil and military authorities, AFMC members and members of the D-Day Overlord association, who paid a vibrant tribute to the veterans still among us and to those who have left us.
