October 14th, 2018: The controversial book on the Pegasus Bridge by Helmut von Keusgen

The French translation of the book “Pegasus Bridge and the battery of Merville” written by Helmut Konrad von Keusgen is published in 2018 by Heimdal editions. The author gives the floor to the German veterans and brings a new hypothesis to the history of the fighting of June 6, 1944.

September 25th, 2018: The history of the Rangers in Normandy revisited by Hollywood

An American TV show is filming on Maisy’s drums, tracing the history of American Ranger units from June 6 to 10, 1944.

September 24th, 2018: A Frenchman and his American half-brother linked by battle of Normandy in 1944

DNA tests revealed to a Frenchman and an American that they had the same father, Bill Henderson, a GI mobilized in Normandy during the Second World War.

September 7th, 2018: publication of the French book Jour J Heure par Heure

This richly illustrated book chronologically describes the course of Operation Overlord through 357 specific events. Published by OREP editions, it was written by Marc Laurenceau, creator of the D-Day Overlord website.

September 6th, 2018: launch of expansion works at the Overlord Museum in Colleville-sur-Mer – Normandy

Inaugurated on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of D-Day in 2014, the Overlord museum located in Colleville-sur-Mer will expand and welcome a new extension for the 75th anniversary of the landing.

September 1st, 2018: passing of Michel Marie, iconographic symbol of the 1944 Liberation

Nicknamed the “Poulbot of Overlord”, his photo in the ruins of Villers-Bocage during the liberation in 1944 went around the world. He died at the age of 80.

August 18, 2018: a German mine found off Grandcamp-Maisy

A German mine, dropped by the Luftwaffe in 1944 in front of the Pointe du Hoc, was found by a trawler Grandcamp-Maisy. Cherbourg’s clearing divers have been deployed to secure the massive one-ton ammunition.

May 23, 2018: Veteran Johannes Börner, symbol of reconciliation, died

With French veteran Léon Gautier on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Normandy landings at Ouistreham, German veteran Johannes Börner had become the symbol of French-German reconciliation. He died on May 20, 2018.
